Little surf, a lot of sun

Late September and early October turned out to be great weather!  Not quite “Indian summer,” but beautiful. The water is still 54-56°, with an occasional spike to nearly 60°, but only for a day or two.  3-4mm wet suits are still the norm.  Only the most hardy wear less.  A few new faces this issue and some you have seen before.img_7074IMG_7064.jpgIMG_7059.jpgIMG_7052.jpgIMG_7049.jpgIMG_6994.jpgIMG_6991.jpgIMG_6975.jpgIMG_6959.jpgIMG_6958.jpgIMG_6952.jpgIMG_6951.jpgIMG_6947.jpgIMG_6944.jpgIMG_6929.jpgIMG_6928.jpgIMG_6921.jpgIMG_6906.jpgIMG_6902.jpgIMG_6899.jpg

The summer that never was

I think it was sometime in July that I saw the last sunny morning. Maybe this marine layer will give way to an “Indian summer.” We can always hope.

However, nothing stops a surfer from getting wet. Now for me… I gripe because of the lighting for the photos that I take of you.  I like a sunlit smile in a breaking wave. Here are some with sun and some with smiles from late August through September.

Item:  Later this month watch for “Geezers and Longboards.”  One of the only times you will see men on a website for women!

No swell summer

We still have a small south swell and surfers that will brave the 52 – 54 degree water of Estero Bay. IMG_6744Summer fog makes for poor photography most of the time,IMG_6719but we do get a brake once in a while when the sun pokes through.IMG_6654 (1).jpgA few new faces and some you have seen before.IMG_6697.jpgIt’s now August and I am not sure we will ever see a “spring suit.”IMG_6692.jpg

Double over ankle

If it’s not foggy or windy it’s set waves that are “double over ankle”. But things can only improve. What the hell, it’s summer. IMG_6536

IMG_6570Maybe I can do a piece on Bakersfield beach fashions or a centerfold beefcake surfer, after all, this is for women! IMG_6574

Not the best

May 15, 2016

Less than ideal conditions kept all but the hardcore away. High winds and poor swells made for washing machine surf most of late April and early May. However, the early mornings were the best if you did go out. I just recently purchased a “Digital picture frame” on which you will be able to look at photos of surfers I have taken that day on a larger format. 8 inches vs 2 inches camera screen.

P.S. Photos of you are emailed for free. 4″x 6″ are $3 each or 4 for $10 printed on site.

No spring suits yet

What was touted to be El Niño turned out to be typical spring weather and surf. A few days of larger swells, a few smaller ones. However between March 20 and April 20 there were only 4 days where no one was surfing. The girls pictured in this installment happen to be all local and surf often.IMG_2337.jpg

If you find yourself surfing in Estero Bay and are female from 6 to 60 you will be photographed and there is a good chance of appearing on this site. Feel free to stop by my white truck with the colorful flag on top to say “Hello.” I have 4″x6″ color photos that I can print on site for you. One photo is $3 or 4 photos for $10.

So smile, and keep a leash on it.               Bob

First off, E.B.W.O.W. would like to congratulate Tori White for her first place win in women’s short board competition at Morro Bay High School’s most recent surfing event in Oxnard, CA. This is part of the Scholastic Surf Series. I have photographed Tori and her sister, Katie, numerous times at Morro Rock. Here she is with her signature crane pose.

Below are a few more of the ladies that braved the cold water and at times high surf, from February 15 through March 15, 2016.

A few good daze

Through late January and early February, we have had a lot of storm conditions, with high surf and winds reaching 30 knots. IMG_2154

IMG_2180IMG_2183However, there were a few days I was able to photograph the few ladies that just had to get wet.IMG_2219IMG_2186

IMG_2185Here are some that caught waves between the days of close-outs and rough surf.IMG_2246IMG_2244IMG_2235IMG_2225

And I would like to thank all of them for giving me something to shoot besides all of the old farts and hot doggers that abound.IMG_2264IMG_2256IMG_2255IMG_2253

Anyway this site is for you…….”You. You women on water.”IMG_2274Keep a leash on it,    Bob

Tubes and other rides

The last few weeks of 2015 were pretty  uneventful, a lack of women surfers, cold water conditions (50-52°F), high winds and cloud cover.

Although, there were a couple of days in Cayucos where I found what I was looking for. A little sun and surfers. Cayucos, California is a sleepy little berg off of Highway 1, two blocks long with a public pier.

A steep pebble beach that is less prone to erosion. On days with an offshore wind and an average swell, some “tubes” may show and they can be fun.

Surfers will tell you when the Rock at Morro Bay is “blown out” Cayucos can be good. In high surf conditions, when both are bad, everyone will be heading to Widow Walls. It’s a “right” that breaks down the inside of the north jetty, not a lot of room, but can be a lot of fun.

P. S.   The men surfers shown on this blog are only to depict the “tubes” at Cayucos and no credit shall be given. Groms are fair game.
